Non-english name? ROMAFL you dare put that here , who made you the "standard" in choosing primary/secondary combo?

Its the Random Arena, The problem is "Syncher" not normal, regular, trying to get into PVP players. if you are such a good monk go to Team Arena and get a team, don't go to Random Arena, its the starting place for PvPers, and it insulting and rude to just assume other players would be bad.

PS: A good Monk can heal anyone, anywhere!

this might solve the "syncher" problem in Random Arena, base on the fact that syncher are mostly from same guild
nerf the program so that it doesn't select people from same guild for entering Random Arena. also Players who have recently chat in whisper or in a team, just don't put them together ever in the same team in Random Arena. this way however you sync, or leave you'll never be team up with your friend or guildie.

Have you try getting straight 10 wins with randomly selected players? I doubt very much, because its no where near being Lucky. you usually get beat at game 9 , then you don't get shit. its not as easy as you think it is.

In my opinion, "cookie cutter" is the scrub word for "established good build that wins consistently but I refuse to play for some personal reason". A cookie cutter build only becomes cookie cutter through popularity, and a build only gets popular if it is successful.

I disagree that all established builds are easy to play. If that were true, any guild would be able to pick up a build and climb the ladder...of course...this has happened at times in Guild Wars. That just tells you that the game isn't properly balanced and is a reason why many people I know have left. So you have somewhat of a point there.

Yea I know your pain. Even though I have all the skills, I still think having to unlock them is ridiculous. Easily one of the biggest mistakes Anet made with PvP. I also find it odd that they removed the premade templates that used to exist...another big mistake.

I pointed out somebody in my previous post who made some good suggestions for the arenas which would be a lot better than bans or anything else I have heard so far.

If you're using Read the Wind you aren't using Apply Poison. Which in RA, and the vast majority of places is the better skill. I'm going to agree that if you aren't using a recurve bow most the match chances are you don't know what you're doing as a ranger.... Obviously thumpers are different (and are nice to have on your team because Daze is very good).

I usually change my Rangers elite depending on what I'm facing most at the current moment. Lots of monks, then BHA works nicely. Lots of melee guys, then CS. Not many people running characters capable of dealing damage, BA is a good choice.

[skill]Distracting Shot[/skill] [skill]Savage Shot[/skill] [skill]Troll Unguent[/skill]
[skill]Mending Touch[/skill] [skill]Natural Stride[/skill] [skill]Apply Poison[/skill]
[skill]Resurrection Signet[/skill]

These are with rare exceptions the other skills on the bar. It may look like what everyone runs, because it is and there's a very good reason for it. Not because it's easy to run, just because it's damn good. And if I enter with this, and got a good warrior and monk on my team, this type of thing is what they'd want to see.

And as Tiyuri said, if you aren't running a monk secondary in RA there's a 99% chance you aren't good. I do realise that some experiend players will try out other ranger build.... those guys are the 1%, and that said the build could still suck

The above bar can generate a lot of pressure via degen which except for Draw/Melandrus Resillience things, (whatever those are about) a monk will struggle to keep up with - spamming a 5 energy 2/3 sec rechagre condition removal isn't easy over the course of a match, especially when the enemy team has a warrior smashing people in the face too.... and when they do get heavily pressured things actually become a bit easier for the ranger imo, people are more likely to cast on recharge and predicting interrupts on skills like Blinding Surge, Condition Removal, ZB is easier and also the fact that more casting instantly after the aftercast will be done for more predicatable interrupts... and once someone is dead, you can tab around for res sigs. It's actually very unlikely that 2 people will res simultaneously in RA because the standards are that bad. If they do you can interrupt both but then will have no interrupt for the res sig you savage shotted - but the chances of him trying again are low because he'll likely be bad. So yeah... above ranger build is a pretty good asset to any team.

To get back to the time point, 3-5 minutes max for RA or TA fight, everything longer is "boring" and becomes holding. WIN>time:survivor count>time:kills scored>time: raw damage scored (unmodified damage dealt Vs AL60).

This will eliminate any holding and waiting game stuff

I am severely against this. What if one jack ass decides he doesn't want to resign and the other team is nothing but runners?

I'll have to be banned for xx minutes because of other stupid people. I'd rather take 30 seconds to enter a new battle. At least then I can get some good games in the amount of time I would have been banned.

well kind of going with my previous idea for AB or FA or anywhere else for that matter with leechers or people who are just overall rude as hell. implement a "majority vote" boot system where every team member EXCEPT the person in question being booted has to agree to boot said person.

ex: your dead in RA along with 2 of your other team members but you just have that 1 person still alive who wants to drag it on forever and ever and ever (running monks, invinci tanks, etc) the 3 dead team members should be able to vote on booting that person. that person will still keep all their balth faction and xp and what have you but that person is no longer drawing out the game... no one hasta leave and be forced to sit out for however many minutes and even the person who was booted wont hafta wait either.

it of course will never ever ever happen but i can hope =)

Well that was quite the ignorant statement....

R/W - Thumper
R/P - Spear w/pet (Heal as One or Rampage as One)
R/Rt - Oath shot spirit spammer or something like Frozen soil w/ rupture soul
R/E - w/ Conjure

and these are just a quick few off the top of my head. Expertise is an extremely strong primary and therefore any secondary can be used effectively based on the build.

Thumpers and spear rangers aren't the bow rangers as he was meaning. R/Rt and R/Es are bad, condition removal is better than conjure (wtfwhy) and if you're wasting a secondary for frozen soil and a dumb spell (time your soil.. nowait.. interrupt resurrects.. ), you're bad too.

R/E with conjure is poop build unless you have several rangers and run a spike build(not gonna happen in RA right?). If you are gonna run conjure, it is better to do so on a warrior.

Oh, please, please, please, put in a huge penalty for people that leave RA early! That way I can use an 'Im Ur Taliban' build and suicide with BiP at the beginning of every RA match. Then laugh at the other 3 teammates as they are forced to play 3v4.

Maybe even create a macro that just presses the enter mission button and BiP/Bip/Bip constantly. Yes, this is a much more effective way to grief! Thanks OP!

i have lvl6 gladiator title, and heres when i leave in RA when i'm not doing TA with my buddies.

General:
  • When someone doesn't load when the gates open just leave, no point waiting.
  • Leecher, leave.
  • Ressed with a skill other than res signet, or dead for more than 20 seconds, just leave.

Warrior:
  • Platemil armor
  • Mending
  • Firestorm
  • Power Attack
  • Armor tank, in PvP warriors arn't tanks, and if you see a warrior with 2 or more armor buffs, just laugh knowing he can't stack them.

Ranger:
  • Power Shot
  • Any bow other than a recurve bow, RA is not PvE, we are not pulling monsters with long/flat bows, if the ranger has a bow and is not a interrupter, just leave, your team is not going to get anywhere with a person spamming power shot with a flatbow.
  • A trapper who insists on the team staying at the opening gates.

Monk:
  • Smite, chances are they are just testing smite, probably have skills like banish, just leave when you see one, just a weak form of damage.
  • Mending bonder, just go.
  • No hex or condition removal, if you see a monk with just full bar of healing spells like healing breaze, orison of healing etc and you come up against a hex necro, your not doing the team any good by just healing them when melee teammate has hexes that hinder their attack speed or can't hit because there blind.
  • 55 tank, they are still around believe it or not.

Mesmer:
If you got no monk, and the mesmer dies short of 2 seconds flat, just leave.
This mesmer was not prepared for RA, and did not choose a skillbar accordingly.

Elementalist:
Generally in RA most eles are good so take the chance and stick around if you see one, but if you want to be picky, look out for E/N combinations.

Necromancer:
  • Minion master, the typical minion master in RA will stand still and do nothing because he/she has nothing to fight with, probably go away make a coffee, come back and hope something dies so he/she can raise 1 bone minion, probably cheering that minion, "oh you gonna die now, i got a minion"

Good thing to do is memorize the PvP death magic skin set, and look out for necros using them.

Assassin:
Bow, critical barrager, this is just ineffective, "leave now, before the admin bans you"

Ritualist:
Spirit spammer who insists on waiting till the enemy comes to them, just leave, this just results in both teams smack talking eachother, big time waster.

Dervish:
Balthazar form with a sword, yes Balthazar(the god in gw) has a sword, doesn't mean you should have one, this is ineffective.

Paragon:
Take you chance, most of them are useless, they are not a great choice for RA.

well i've stereotyped most of the noobz you may come across, if you have more, feel free to add them, i'm not going to argue on the points i've made that are effective in some situations.
That's 1 professional leaver here /sarcasm

1. About the warrior, don't forget those with Balthazar form, I encountered them before

2. Recurve bow isnt always necessary for ranger, I would prefer using shotbow sometimes, and longbow when fighting a spammer rt.

3. Stop complain about the monks, even if he's a smiter, or a s--ky healer. You are suppose to bring a selfheal and not relying on monk in RA.

4. Don't forget eles casting Meteor Shower (without Glyph of Sac) and the tanking ele. Have a quick laugh at them

I have a longbow in my #4 slot solely for harrassment during staredowns, and it comes in handy if someone brings fav winds. I sometimes just happen to have it out when I join RA, I guess that could explain some of the leavers as well..

Someone needs to write up a list over what's accepted and not in RA so noobs like me can play.

Run the meta, observe GvG's or soemthing and you'll get a good idea of what builds you're quote unquote supposed to run. Then, you'll know whats accepted.

Hmm that gave me brilliant (and better) idea I think and the best solution... What about a payment?

Let ANet do two types of RA - free for all (without ability to get glad point), and second type where u need to pay tournament token to enter each time.

Token should be easy to re-buy after a few rounds of staying in RA and also should be able to get from "free RA", but any fast leavers from "glad RA" will deplete their token supply very fast...

What do u think of this idea?

Stupid idea like all the others.

Tonight there was a Rit/Mo in RA that kept saying "I'm a healer" only to leave right after. Why do I think it is one of the idiots here?

Well he wasn't specific about a bow - just referred to a Ra but we'll give you the benefit of the doubt here to make you feel better about yourself. Now saying a R/Rt w/ frozen is poor obviously shows your near-sightedness and should counteract your little self-esteem boost. You do realize that frozen is the same as having a leaver right? Offsetting the balance of the team ring a bell? QQ because it's 4 vs 3 or 4 vs 2 (although granted even rez sigs are sometimes questionable in Ra)? Sure frozen will go down in a few swings/skills/spells but that on top of having to rez after the fact is often more than enough time to capitalize on the player advantage. Oh wait, that's right..you have interrupts ! Oh crap, that's right... savage won't shut the sig down, guess they'll recast it after the fact. Oh crap, distracting won't recharge quick enough to get the other 2 players. Woopie i have Punishing shot/ Magebane shot as an elite but still won't keep 3 ppl from rezing (all the time anyway - there are good runs were everything goes you're way and you're cueing up on cast animations etc.). You seem to neglect that the Ra w/ frozen might have a few interrupts of their own too and could manage a couple of those late rez sigs that pop up after frozen gets dropped. Having a good player CONTROL a man advantage is alot stronger than you're giving it credit (especially in random).

Conjure on a Wa is just a fantastic increase in DPS and you're absolutely right, Ra's aren't normally meant to be focusing on raw output. Having said that, Ra's are one of the most versatile classes in this game and therefore shouldn't be discounted right away:

[skill]glass arrows[/skill][skill]savage shot[/skill][skill]distracting shot[/skill][skill]needling shot[/skill][skill]conjure frost[/skill][skill]favorable winds[/skill][skill]resurrection signet[/skill]

Open slot for your choice

Exp 12 +1+1
Mark 10 +1
Water 8

or if you're not opposed to superiors in random

Exp 11 +3
Mark 10 +1 +1
Water 10

Icy Shortbow of Fortitude
Vamp Short or Recurve for being stripped
Icy Longbow of Fortitude
Health/AL swap

One that Negative Zero use to run wayyyyyyyy back (granted it was incorporated as spike and recharge times weren't bound to 1sec but it's still great DPS assuming you can keep up with the en requirements.)

[skill]savage shot[/skill][skill]quick shot[/skill][skill]dual shot[/skill][skill]kindle arrows[/skill][skill]conjure flame[/skill][skill]serpent's quickness[/skill][skill]glyph of elemental power[/skill][skill]favorable winds[/skill]

just sub one skill of your choice for[skill]resurrection signet[/skill]

Just remember that the kindle arrows satisfies the elemental portion of the bow therefore you can run a vamp (or any bow string) with this.

anywho I've babbled on enough now and better shutup before i derail this thread more than I already have.

A better overall setup than "10-20 minutes" would be something along the lines of:

Leave before match has begun (during timer) - 15 minute temp-ban
Leave within the first 5 minutes of the match - 10 minute temp-ban
Leave between the 5 minute and 20 minute mark - 5 minute temp-ban

Resign incurs no penalty.
Leaving after 20 minutes incurs no penalty.
Second person on a team to leave receives 75% penalty.
Third and fourth leavers incur no penalty.

Time frames can be adjusted to fit better, but this setup would allow for minimal/no penalty for greatly extended games, and leaving if half your team has already left. Also, resigning incurs no penalty in case your team has a poor setup (4 monks).
I like your idea although it might need some adjustments.

I am still a bit intrigued with this thread. An earlier poster made some great suggestions that attacked the root of the issue and nobody even addressed it besides me. Most people are simply bringing out the burning pitchforks looking for bans on people instead of looking at real solutions.
